You probably know the word "edelweiss" from the famous 1965 musical, Sound of Music. But did you know that this little plant, with its snow-white leaves and star-shaped inflorescence, means much more than just a song? The edelweiss is in fact surrounded by fascinating myths and traditions.
The edelweiss is often associated with certain myths related to proving one's worth and discovering true love. For example, it used to be believed that a young man picking an edelweiss for his beloved proved his courage and devotion. The flower grows at a great height and is not easy to reach. Picking an edelweiss was therefore a dangerous and courageous act.
